Byway 136 – Heritage Highway is committed to promoting Tourism along the southern border of Nebraska.

DSCF1141

The 10 counties along Highway 136 and the seven corridor counties offer many attractions, festivals and events for families looking to attend activities year round.  The 10 Byway 136 Counties are Nemaha, Johnson, Gage, Jefferson Thayer, Nuckolls, Franklin, Webster, Harlan and Furnas.  The seven Corridor Counties are Dundy, Hitchcock, Otoe, Pawnee, Red Willow, Richardson and Saline.

Our current big event is the Trail of Treasures (patterned after Junk Jaunt) which is held the first weekend in October. This year of 2019 will be the 8th year for the event. This is a huge Flea Market, Garage Sale Event drawing people from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado, South Dakota, Minnesota and other states.

We are also working on “Trail of Authors, Arts and Architecture” and Trail of Photos to help promote Tourism and make the Byway area of Southern Nebraska a tourist destination.

We encourage you to join our organization by offering four different levels called Trailblazers (Re-blaze the Trail).  Pioneer Trailblazer – $50; Dream Weaver Trailblazer – $75; Pathfinder Trailblazer – $100; and Destination Trailblazer – $150. Individuals can join for $25. Increased membership will offer the Byway opportunities to assist member communities with their various projects.
